Finally, after giving away a titantic amount of free Juston Stens EP's (sorry folks! we told you all about it though) the Juston Stens EP is finally available at all of those awesome digital retailers we talked about earlier. The EP is awesome, and we think the Juston Stens & The Get Real Gang live show may even be awesomer. It's that awesome. The Pharmacy on DaytrotterAugust 6th, 2010NOLA via Seattle rockers the Pharmacy just hit up Rock Island's own DayTrotter to drop 5 tracks in the studio, click here to listen! "It's music that is ragged and brilliant in its sort of spooky take on the mundane. We're hearing about it all, as it's written and performed, after all of the dust has settled and the smoking has just begun - where you can see it gathering around ceiling lights dangling silently above a billiards table or a sagging couch. The creases and lines in faces are softened in the dimmed light and The Pharmacy describes for us the aspects of the hardened lines that have been blurred. They seem to now lie comfortably within the darkened spaces. We drift, all bewitched in our listening." read more Generationals are recording!July 14th, 2010
Somewhere in Washington DC, Generationals along with their trusty producer/engineer/bff extraordinaire, are recording the follow-up to last years debut album Con Law. Not many details have been shared just yet, but sources close to the band cite heaps of influence from the new Liz Phair album, and the new Predators movie. Follow Generationals on Twitter for more updates! "Just like coffee and tea, I need you regularly"June 21st, 2010Park The Van is happy to announce the US release of At Breakfast, Dinner, Tea by Voluntary Butler Scheme, set for an August 17th release. The album will feature bonus tracks not included on the UK release. Voluntary Butler Scheme is the moniker of Rob Jones, a young songwriter from Stourbridge, UK. We fell in love with the song "Trading Things In" and immediately afterwards the entire album. We're thrilled to be working with Voluntary Butler Scheme and excited to share these songs with our friends in the US. Check out the music video for "Trading Things In" below, and read more about the latest addition to PTV here
Brass BedJune 3rd, 2010Brass Bed is latest signing to Park The Van Records, a four piece from Lafayette, LA who have crafted such an incredible live show to match their equally awesome album Melt White which will hit record stores this September (let us know if you want to hear it!). After honing their skills for years with regional shows, and recently playing some shows with bands like The Walkmen, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Here We Go Magic, Brass Bed found themselves in a place that takes some bands years to reach. Their live set is the real deal, they remind us of what it is that we love about live shows. Equal parts Big Star and Flaming Lips, Brass Bed is seriously inspiring and impressive, check out a live clip here. Brass Bed is also going on tour in support of Juston Stens (ex Dr. Dog) and the Get Real Gang. You can view the dates below and you can also get a listen of some Juston Stens and Brass Bed tunes at this handy-dandy e-card we created for the tour! Tour Dates: Jun 26 - Rock Island, IL - Huckleberry's Pizza Malerman / OwenMay 25th, 2010Today we are proud to release the collaboration between Josh Malerman (of the High Strung) and Mark Owen (formerly of the High Strung) is essentially the culmination of two like-minded artists who, for whatever reason, finally got "it" right. Their album, Malerman/Owen has most of the things the pair adore: enthusiasm, something philosophical, a sense of wit, and the difficult coupling of humility and confidence. Malerman likes to describe the album as "the Everly Brothers high out of their minds" but really this is a disservice to an extremely original album. Malerman/Owen is a modern album, resplendent with the skill of two wonderful songwriters and the (thankfully) accidental way it came into being. The best way to explain it might be this: the album is the sound of freaks making good. The sound of two men who respect the hell out of each other and went with every idea that came to them. And their worldviews, though as various as any two peoples must be, may best be summed up in the lyric of the song with the same title: Sometimes it's odd... sometimes it's like God... |
